Give Yourself a Break When You Strive for Self-Improvement

In recovery from alcoholism and drug abuse, I often beat myself up for personal shortcomings and failures. I'm now learning to grant myself grace. One helpful exercise involves imagining holding hands with my younger self.


Crucially, the way we treat others is often a reflection of how we treat ourselves. Self-love is essential to being respectful and compassionate to our friends, neighbors, family, colleagues, clients, and strangers.


Also in this episode, I invented a new word: "temptatious."
